Since almost everyone is allergic to something or the other, this study would seem interesting to all.

Researchers from Johns Hopkins and University of Alberta have discovered that a single protein is the cause of all allergic reactions to medications and other substances. MRGPRX2 is the culprit protein that causes all the dangerous and painful allergic reactions.

“It’s fortunate that all of the drugs turn out to trigger a single receptor-it makes that receptor an attractive drug target,” says Benjamin McNeil, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University. If a new drug targeting this specific protein is found, it would be the answer to solving all allergic reactions. The study was published in the high impact journal, Nature.
